Help - Troubleshooting and Tips

Problems with the appearance and/or functionality of the site

There is a strange border around my site when I hold the mouse over it, and I have to click twice for any of the main menu tabs to work.

This is a problem due to a new Windows update to Internet Explorer. There are a couple of suggested fixes you can try. Go here for this information.

I am having trouble uploading my site. I uploaded the files but all I see on my site is a blank screen and nothing else.

Make sure you have uploaded the individual files to your site and not the folder with the files in it. You should be able to select or highlight all the files and upload them all at once.

If you have done this, then it is possible the embed.js file is missing, and it may have been blocked when the files were sent to you initially. You can try to unblock this file by doing the following:

Make sure the zipped folder you received is saved on your computer. Then when viewing the files contained in that folder, try right-clicking on the file that is being blocked, and select Properties. When the properties box appears, there should be an "Unblock" button. Try clicking that and then try extracting that file again.

My template works fine on my local computer, but when I upload to my live site, it gets stuck at 100% loaded.

1. Check to see if ALL the files included with your template files have been uploaded to your site.

2. Make sure you have not accidentally removed or changed any of the variables on the text file(s), especially the one at the end "&textloaded=OK&".

I just purchased a template and when I try to view my site on my computer, all I see is a blank screen.

Make sure you are editing the files from within the folder you extracted the zipped files to on your computer, and not from the zipped folder you originally received.

If you have verified that you are editing from the correct folder, then make sure you have a file called "embed.js" which should have come with the template files. If you don't have this file, it may have been blocked due to the security settings on your computer and this may be what is causing the screen to remain blank.

If this does not work, contact us regarding this issue and we will try to resend this file to you.

When I try to view my site, it will not load and it tells me that Flash player is required, but I've already downloaded and installed Flash player.

Make sure you are editing the files from within the folder you extracted the zipped files to on your computer, and not from the zipped folder you originally received.

If you have verified that you are editing from the correct folder, try the following possible solutions to fix this:

At the very top of the page, before any html code begins, enter the following:

<!-- saved from url=(0013)about:internet -->

Then save the index.html file and try to open it again in your web browser.

If this does not work, try the following:

In the lower right corner of the browser window, you should see a red icon and the text "restricted sites". Double click on that. A window titled "Internet Security Properties" will open. Click on "Custom Level". Then you will see near the bottom, "Reset to:" and a drop down list. Select "Medium" from the drop down list and press "Reset". Then press "OK". And then Press "OK" again. Refresh the page, and the site should load. As a side note, this issue only occurs when you try to view your site on your local computer. It should not occur for other users who are viewing your site online.

If you notice it keeps getting reset from Medium back to High, check any firewall settings that may be causing this to happen.

If the above doesn't solve the problem, you can also try:

In Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options, then click the Security tab and then Custom Level. A list of items will appear. Find "Run ActiveX controls and Plugins" and make sure that the Enabled option is checked. Then click OK and then OK again.

and:

In Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options, then click the Advanced tab. Scroll down the list of settings until you see Security. Make sure that these options are checked:

Allow active content from CDs to run on my Computer
Allow active content to run in files on my Computer

Then click OK.

If this still does not solve the problem, try the following:

In Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Manage Addons, and find the Shockwave Flash Object in the list of Add-ons. Make sure it is Enabled. Select this item in the list and make sure the radio button next to Enabled is selected.

Then click OK.

I have a template that features a slideshow on the home page or gallery pages. Once uploaded to my website, the slideshow seems to run too slowly.

This could be due to the image sizes being too large. Try reducing the file size of the images. It is reccomended that you save your images at 72 dpi and at 50-60% jpeg quality.

I have changed my background color to white and now I can't see text, arrows, scrollbars or text on the contact form page.

Contact us and we can provide a copy of the template swf file that will work better with a white background. This mainly applies to Portfolio #22 and #23.

I've made some text and/or image updates to my site but I am not seeing the new images or text when I try to view my site. I'm still seeing the old images and/or text.

Try clearing your browser cache and then try viewing the site again.

I have a contact form on my site, but it does not seem to be working. It appears as if the information was sent, but I never receive the email.

If you have webhosting with Godaddy.com or with Winklet Webhosting, try the following:

Log into your account that you set up when purchasing the hosting and domain name. Go to Manage Hosting and open your control panel. There should be somewhere to install their formmail script and to enter your email address to receive mail from form submittals. Once this is completed, do the following:

Change the &scriptlocation variable on portfolio0xx.txt so that it reads:

&scriptlocation=gdform.asp&

OR if your hosting plan supports PHP instead of ASP, change it to:

&scriptlocation=gdform.php&

(This is using the webhost-provided script instead of the one we sent you.)

Then save, and upload the modified portfolio0xx.txt file and then try the contact form again.

If you have webhosting with Yahoo, try the following:

Open the email.php file in a text editor (same one you use to edit the site text).
Find the following line of code:

$whofrom=$_POST["Email"];

Change it to:

$whofrom="webmaster@yourdomain.com";

and make sure to change yourdomain.com to your actual domain name.

Otherwise, if your site is hosted elsewhere, please let us know the following and we will try to help:

1. Who your webhosting company is
2. What hosting package you have, and whether it supports PHP or ASP
3. Where we can view your site

Some or all of my images are not loading.

Be sure you are not saving it as a "progressive" jpg. In your image editing software, there should be an option to save as a "progressive" jpg - you must make sure this option is NOT selected when saving your image. Also make sure all the files are named properly, and that the file name and file extension are in lowercase and not capital letters. (i.e., home.jpg and not home.JPG or HOME.JPG.)
